Overview
With most of us shopping online these days, we know how hard it is to keep track of all of the items you've returned and when you should expect to receive the refund. Let Quicken Simplifi do that for you!
Quicken Simplifi makes it easy to stay on top of refunds by letting you record them as pending. This way, you can see what’s owed to you and keep your budget realistic until the money arrives. Once the refund clears, you can match it to the transaction and close the loop.
Tracking a Refund
Hover over the left panel and click Bills & Income.
Select Refunds.
Click the Track a Refund button.
If you've already created a refund and you want to add another, click the +Refund button in the upper-right corner.
Enter the payee, amount, expected date, and account for the expected refund.
You can also add a category, notes, and attachments to reference the item returned.
Click Submit when done.
Link a Refund to a Transaction
While Quicken Simplifi does a great job linking your downloaded transactions to your expected refunds, there are occasions when you may need to link them manually.
Note: Manually entered transactions cannot be linked to refunds at this time.
Hover over the left panel and click Transactions.
Locate the refund transaction you'd like to link, hover over it, and click the three-dot icon at the end of it.
Select Edit transaction.
Click the blue Match refund link under the Tags dropdown.
Select the Refund you'd like to link the transaction to.
To save the changes, close the Transaction detail window.
Quicken Simplifi will link the downloaded transaction to the expected refund and update the transaction details, such as the Payee and Category, to what was provided in the Refund.
Note: You can also link a refund to a transaction from Refunds or the Refund Reminder directly.
Unlink a Refund from a Transaction
While Quicken Simplifi does a great job linking your downloaded transactions to your expected refunds, there are occasions when you may need to unlink them.
Hover over the left panel and click Transactions.
Locate the refund transaction you'd like to unlink, hover over it, and click the three-dot icon at the end of it.
Select Edit transaction.
Click on the blue Unmerge link next to "A manual and bank transaction were combined to create this entry".
To save the changes, close the Transaction detail window.
Once unlinked, Quicken Simplifi will revert any changes that were made to the Payee and Category at the time of linking.
Edit or Delete a Refund
Note: Currently, refunds marked as "Completed" cannot be edited or deleted—only those marked as "Expected" can be changed.
Hover over the left panel and click Bills & Income.
Select Refunds.
Locate the refund you'd like to edit or delete and click the three-dot icon on its upper right.
To delete the refund, select Delete.
To edit the refund, select Edit, make the necessary changes, and click Submit when done.
