Overview
Purchasing an automobile means you now own an asset. This article explains how to link your vehicle to Kelley Blue Book in Quicken Simplifi so you can automatically track its value as part of your net worth.
Once linked, your automobile asset account will automatically update every 30 days using Kelley Blue Book’s current valuation. This value will appear as the account balance in Quicken Simplifi.
Note: If your automobile is brand new, exotic, or rare, Kelley Blue Book may not have a trade-in value available. In these cases, a value closer to the purchase price or MSRP may be used instead. For most vehicles, Quicken Simplifi will display the Kelley Blue Book trade-in value.
Add a New Kelley Blue Book Account
To link Kelley Blue Book when adding a new automobile asset account in Quicken Simplifi, follow the steps below.
Note: If the value provided by Kelley Blue Book doesn't look right, you will have the option of adding manually.
From the Dashboard, click on the + New button in the upper right of the Accounts List.
Select Track assets, and then select Automobile.
Enter the automobile details:
Use Make/Model:
Enter the Year, Make, Model, Trim, Miles, and Zip Code.
Use VIN:
Enter the 17-digit VIN, Miles, and Zip Code.
Click Continue.
Select the condition using Kelley Blue Book's definitions, and then click Continue.
Confirm the details and click Continue.
Link an Existing Account to Kelley Blue Book
If you already have a manual asset account in Quicken Simplifi to track your automobile’s value, you can link it to Kelley Blue Book.
From the Dashboard, click on the + New button in the upper right of the Accounts List.
Select Track assets, and then select Automobile.
Enter the automobile details:
Use Make/Model:
Enter the Year, Make, Model, Trim, Miles, and Zip Code.
Use VIN:
Enter the 17-digit VIN, Miles, and Zip Code.
Click Continue.
Select the condition using Kelley Blue Book's definitions, and then click Continue.
From the Link to dropdown, select the manual asset account.
Confirm the rest of the details and click Continue.
Unlink an Account from Kelley Blue Book
If you prefer to track your automobile’s value manually instead of using Kelley Blue Book, you can easily unlink it from your account settings.
Hover over the panel on the left side and click Settings.
Select Accounts.
Locate the account you want to unlink from Kelley Blue Book and click the three-dot icon at the end of it.
Select Make manual.
Click Make Manual to confirm.
Mileage and Other Updates
You can automatically keep your mileage up to date for your Kelley Blue Book-linked accounts in Quicken Simplifi. This feature uses your driving history to update your vehicle’s mileage, helping keep your valuation current.
You can also customize how mileage updates by entering your own 30-day mileage increment.
Additionally, you can edit the account at any time to update other details, such as mileage, ZIP code, and vehicle condition. After making changes, Simplifi will automatically re-run the vehicle valuation.
Note: Automatic updates will be enabled by default. You can disable this at any time!
Note: Automatic updates are currently only available in Early Access.
Enable Automatic Mileage Updates
Hover over the left panel and select Settings, and then select Accounts.
Locate your Kelley Blue Book-linked account and click the three dots at the end of it.
Click Edit account.
Check the box next to Automatically update miles.
Click Update.
Customize How Mileage Automatically Updates
Hover over the left panel and select Settings, and then select Accounts.
Locate your Kelley Blue Book-linked account and click the three dots at the end of it.
Click Edit account.
Ensure the box next to Automatically update miles is checked, or check it.
Click Customize.
Select the option for Add custom amount every 30 days.
Enter the Miles Increment you want to use.
Click Save when done, and then click Update.
Manually Update Details
Hover over the left panel and select Settings, and then select Accounts.
Locate your Kelley Blue Book-linked account and click the three dots at the end of it.
Click Edit account.
Click Edit details to update the mileage or condition.
Otherwise, you can edit the zip code on the main screen.
Click Update when done.
Disable Automatic Mileage Updates
Hover over the left panel and select Settings, and then select Accounts.
Locate your Kelley Blue Book-linked account and click the three dots at the end of it.
Click Edit account.
Uncheck the box next to Automatically update miles.
Click Update.
