Overview

Quicken Simplifi likes to make managing your transactions as easy and carefree as possible! Creating Transaction Rules will allow you to make sure your transactions always come in the way you want them to.

Transaction Rules can be used to have Quicken Simplifi automatically recognize your incoming transactions based on specific or broad "if" conditions, such as the Payee or Amount, and then apply "then" conditions, such as a Payee, Category, and Tag.

Example: You can input the keywords "wal" and "mart" for a Payee Rule to rename to "Walmart", and then "Groceries" as a Category Rule. Then, whenever a transaction containing those keywords comes in, Quicken Simplifi will automatically rename the Payee to "Walmart" and set the Category to "Groceries".

Note: Transaction Rules cannot be applied to transfer transactions or manually entered transactions.

Create a Transaction Rule

At this time, Transaction Rules cannot be created directly from a transaction on the Quicken Simplifi Mobile App. Instead, you can use the Settings > Rules menu to create your Transaction Rules!

  1. Tap the Menu (three-line) icon.

  2. Select Settings and then Rules.

  3. Tap the plus (+) button in the upper right.

  4. Choose the IF conditions by clicking the plus sign at the end of the "If My Transaction Matches This" section, checking the applicable checkboxes, and then tapping Apply:

    1. Payee: Select whether you want Quicken Simplifi to look at the original statement name or the Quicken Simplifi name when referencing transactions, and then enter the keyword(s) you'd like Quicken Simplifi to watch out for to rename the Payee by.

      1. You can add additional keywords by clicking the plus (+) button to the right of the keywords field.

    2. Amount: You can enter amounts that are greater than, less than, equal to, or a range to further refine the search.

    3. Account: To even further refine the search, choose the account the transactions will download/import into.

  5. Choose the Then conditions by clicking the plus sign at the end of the "Then Make These Changes" section, checking the applicable checkboxes, and then tapping Apply:

    1. Rename Payee: Choose the Payee you want automatically applied to the transactions.

    2. Update Category: Select the Category you want automatically applied to the transactions.

    3. Add Tags: Choose the Tag(s) you want automatically applied to the transactions.

    4. Add Notes: Enter a Note you want automatically applied to the transactions.

    5. Exclude From: You can have the transactions automatically excluded from Reports or the Spending Plan.

    6. Review Status: Choose whether you want the transactions to be automatically Reviewed or Not Reviewed.

  6. Tap Continue to review.

  7. Choose whether you'd like the Transaction Rule to be applied to existing transactions by using the toggle.

  8. Tap Create Rule.

Edit or Delete a Transaction Rule

  1. Tap the Menu (three-line) icon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn the answers to frequently asked questions for this topic!

Can you create multiple Category Rules for a payee?

At this time, Quicken Simplifi only allows the ability to have a single Category Rule for each Payee. If you use the same vendor for multiple services, we suggest attempting to identify something unique in the downloaded Payee name for each of the services so you can create a separate Payee Rule and therefore a separate Category Rule for each of the services. You can also assign additional unique conditions, such as an amount, to further refine the search.

Do Transaction Rules apply to manual transactions?

At this time, Transaction Rules will not be applied to manually entered transactions. We apologize for any inconvenience and urge you to visit us in our Community to add your vote and feedback to a request for this ability by clicking here.
