How Quicken Simplifi Calculates Your Balance

Quicken Simplifi is designed to count pending transactions toward your balance; this includes manually entered pending transactions with the current or a prior date, as well as downloaded pending transactions. This allows you to get a better idea of how much money you actually have in your bank accounts, as banks typically provide a balance that does not include pending transactions.

Example: If your bank reports your current checking account balance as $1000 and you have a pending transaction of $150, Quicken Simplifi will show the account balance as $850.

Note: Manually entered transactions marked as Cleared do not affect the balance for connected accounts.

Note: While we work hard to ensure that we display the most up-to-date information, it can take 4-6 hours after appearing on your bank's website before pending transactions appear in Quicken Simplifi.

Balance Options

If you'd prefer to not have Quicken Simplifi count pending transactions toward your balance, or if your bank provides a balance that already includes pending transactions and Quicken Simplifi is double-counting them, you can easily disable this feature!

  2. Select Bank Balance to disable Quicken Simplifi from counting pending transactions for all accounts.

Disable Pending Transactions From Being Counted for a Single Account

Note: The Mobile App does not currently offer the ability to disable pending transactions from being counted for individual accounts. To do so, you'll want to follow the steps above for the Web App.

Troubleshooting Balance Discrepancies

If you notice a difference between your bank balance and the balance Quicken Simplifi shows for a connected account, there may be two possible causes: pending transactions or downloading the wrong balance.

Pending Transactions

If Quicken Simplifi is set to count pending transactions toward the balance, any transaction in a 'pending' status will count toward the balance provided by your bank. This includes manually entered or downloaded pending transactions.

  • It can take 4-6 hours for pending transactions to download into Quicken Simplifi once they appear on your bank's website.

  • Please note that some banks don't support the downloading of pending transactions. For these banks, cleared transactions will download 4-6 hours after clearing with your bank.

How can this be resolved?

  • If you notice pending transactions in Quicken Simplifi that have already cleared with your bank, try manually refreshing your accounts in Quicken Simplifi.

    • Web App: Hover over the menu on the left-hand side and click the refresh icon.

    • Mobile App: Click on the refresh icon in the upper right of the Dashboard.

  • If the pending transaction remains, it's possible that Quicken Simplifi didn't match the cleared transaction to the pending one.

    • You can confirm this by checking your Transaction Activity in Quicken Simplifi for a duplicate, cleared transaction.

  • If you do locate a duplicate transaction (one pending and one cleared), we recommend deleting the pending version of the transaction.

    • Please see our support article here for steps to delete a transaction in Quicken Simplifi.

Wrong Balance Downloading

Most banks provide a balance that doesn't include pending transactions. However, if your bank does include pending transactions, and you have Quicken Simplifi set to count pending transactions toward the balance, any pending transactions in the program could be double-counted, causing a balance discrepancy.

How can this be resolved?

  • Once the pending transactions have cleared, the balance should correct itself.

  • For a permanent solution, set the account to not count pending transactions toward the balance. This should make Quicken Simplifi's balance and pending transactions match what you see on the bank's website.

    • To do so, please follow the steps listed here.

Balance Discrepancies with Manual Accounts

For manual accounts, Quicken Simplifi calculates the balance by using the sum of all of the transactions that have been entered into the account. Therefore, regardless of the status, all transactions in a manual account will impact the balance.
