Overview
Quicken Simplifi’s Savings Goals help you set aside money for things like vacations, emergencies, or other future expenses. Simply enter the amount you want to save, and Simplifi can suggest a target date and monthly contribution.
You can adjust or remove the target date and customize your monthly contribution. You can also include your Savings Goals in your Spending Plan to help keep that money from being spent elsewhere.
Create a Savings Goal
Hover over the left panel and select Savings Goals.
Click Create Goal.
If you already have a savings goal and want to create another, click the blue + Goal button in the upper-right corner.
Select the type of goal you want to create, then enter a Goal Name and Goal Amount.
If you've already started saving, enter the amount under Amount Saved and select the account where the funds are saved.
To add funds from additional accounts, click + Add Account.
Click Continue.
Set a Target Goal Date, or select Don't Set if you don't have a target date in mind. Then, select a Start Date.
Note: The Start Date option is only available if you haven't saved any funds toward the goal yet.
Click Continue.
Review the goal details and choose whether to include the monthly contribution amount in your Spending Plan. Click Create Goal to finish.
Contributing to Your Savings Goals
You can choose when and how often to contribute to your Savings Goals. When you contribute funds, Quicken Simplifi separates the contributed amount from your account's available balance in the Accounts List.
Note: Contributions are currently supported only for checking, savings, and investment accounts. Credit and loan accounts aren't supported.
As an example, if your bank balance is $5,410.00 and you've told Quicken Simplifi that you've contributed $500.00 from your account to your Savings Goal, Quicken Simplifi will add a separate Available Balance, which is: $4,910.00 (the amount remaining after your Goal contributions).
Note: Simplifi does not move money in or out of your financial accounts. Savings Goals simply help you track your progress and stay on track with your savings.
Adding a Contribution
Hover over the left panel and click Savings Goals.
Locate the goal you want to contribute to and click the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner.
Select Contribute to goal.
Enter the Amount to contribute and select the Take from account you want to use.
Click Contribute.
Withdrawing From a Savings Goal
There are two ways to withdraw money from a Savings Goal:
Spend a Custom Amount: Use money you've already saved to pay for the goal. This does not change the Saved So Far or Left to Save amounts. Instead, it tracks how much of your Goal money you've spent.
Use for Something Else: Return all or part of your saved money to your available spending funds. The amount is removed from Saved So Far and added back to Left to Save. This is useful if your financial needs change and you need to use the money for something else.
Hover over the left panel and click Savings Goals.
Locate the goal you want to withdraw from and click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
Select Withdraw from goal.
Choose Spend a custom amount or Withdraw for something else, depending on your needs.
Enter the Amount you want to withdraw.
Click Withdraw.
How Goal Contributions and Withdraws are Handled in the Spending Plan
If you include a Savings Goal in your Spending Plan, its monthly contribution is automatically included. Any additional contributions you make during the month are also included.
When you withdraw money from a Goal:
Spend a custom amount: Does not affect the Spending Plan.
Use for Something Else: Removes the withdrawn amount from the Spending Plan, up to the regular monthly contribution amount.
These rules only apply to Goals included in the Spending Plan. Goals that are not included appear grayed out and do not affect the Spending Plan.
Include or Exclude a Savings Goal from the Spending Plan
Hover over the left panel and click Spending Plan.
Select Goals.
Locate the goal you want to include or exclude and click the three-dot icon at the end of the goal.
Select Exclude from Spending Plan or Include in Spending Plan, depending on your needs.
