Overview

Your reports and Spending Plan work best when they reflect your true financial picture. Sometimes, transactions are included that shouldn’t be—or excluded when they should count—making your data less accurate.

Simplifi lets you control which transactions appear in your reports and Spending Plan. By adjusting these settings, you can ensure your information aligns with your goals and gives you a clear view of your finances.

Exclude a Transaction

Follow the steps below to exclude a transaction from either the Spending Plan or reports.

Please note that excluding transactions from reports will automatically exclude them from Watchlists as well.

  1. Hover over the left panel and click Transactions.

  2. Locate the transaction you'd like to exclude, hover over it, and then click the three-dot icon at the end of it.

  3. In the Exclude from section, select Spending Plan or Reports, whichever applies, so there is a checkmark next to it.

Quicken Simplifi flags them with an excluded icon next to the amount, making it easy to include or exclude them as needed. This is how the excluded icon appears in Quicken Simplifi:

Note: Transactions with a 'Transfer' Category, including "Credit Card Payment", will always be excluded from reports, even if you select to include them. Please see here for more details on using transfers in Quicken Simplifi.

Hide Excluded Transactions in the Spending Plan

While excluded transactions are not included in the calculations, they will still appear grayed out in the Transactions Activity view under Planned Spend and Other Spend. If you’d like to hide them from this view as well, follow the next steps:

  1. Hover over the left panel and click Spending Plan.

  2. Click Planned Spend or Other Spend.

    1. Planned Spend: Click on the expense, click the three-dot icon to the right of your planned spend amount, and then click Hide excluded transactions.

    2. Other Spend: Click the three-dot icon in the upper right and then click Hide excluded transactions.

Include a Transaction

If you don’t see a transaction in your Spending Plan or reports, it may be excluded. Here’s how to include it again:

  1. Hover over the left panel and click Transactions.

  2. Locate the Transaction you'd like to include, hover over it, and then click the three-dot icon at the end of it.

  3. In the Exclude from section, select Spending Plan or Reports, whichever applies, so there is no longer a checkmark next to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find the answers to frequently asked questions for this topic!

Can I exclude part of a split transaction?

Currently, Quicken Simplifi only offers the ability to exclude an entire transaction from Reports and/or the Spending Plan, so you won't be able to exclude only part of a split transaction. If you'd like to see this ability added to Quicken Simplifi, please visit us in our Community and add your vote here!

Is there a way to filter transactions by 'Excluded' status?

Yes! You can use the Advanced Filter options available in your accounts register to filter your transactions by 'Excluded in reports', 'Not excluded in reports', 'Excluded in spending plan', and 'Not excluded in spending plan'.

Why are some transactions automatically excluded from Reports and the Spending Plan?

Typically, 'Transfer' transactions, such as Credit Card Payments, will automatically be excluded from reports and the Spending Plan, as these transactions are designed to be neutral and not count as an expense or income. More details on using transfers can be found here.

Can you create 'Exclude' Rules, similar to Category and Payee Rules?

Yes! Now you can create 'Exclude' rules based on specific or broad "if" conditions, such as the Payee or Amount, and then apply a "then" condition, which in this case is 'Exclude from'. Learn more about this in this article: How to Use Transaction Rules.
