Asset Tracking in Quicken Simplifi

Learn about tracking your assets, such as your home or vehicle, in Quicken Simplifi

Written by Natalie

Overview

Assets are an important part of calculating your net worth. With the exception of Zillow-linked properties, assets in Quicken Simplifi are tracked as manual accounts.

Add a Manual Asset Account

  1. From the Dashboard, click + New.

  2. Select Add Manual Account.

  3. From the Account Type list, choose an Asset account.

  4. Enter a Usage Type and Account Name.

  5. Enter the current value of the asset.

  6. Click Continue.

Once created, your asset account will appear in the Accounts List, and its value will be included in your net worth calculation.

Updating the Value of an Asset

Because Asset Accounts are tracked manually in Quicken Simplifi, you'll also need to update their value manually. You can either:

  • Enter a new transaction to reflect the change in value, or

  • Edit the Opening Balance transaction and update its amount to the asset's current value.

How to Handle the Selling of an Asset

If you've sold an asset you're tracking in Quicken Simplifi, the recommended approach is to close the asset account. This sets the account balance to $0 while preserving its historical data. For instructions, see How to Close an Account.

After closing the asset account, record the proceeds in the account where you received the funds. For example, if you sell a vehicle and deposit the money into your checking account, make sure that deposit is recorded in your checking account in Quicken Simplifi. This ensures your net worth continues to accurately reflect your finances.

Using Zillow to Track Real Estate Assets

If you're tracking real estate in Quicken Simplifi, you can use Zillow integration to automatically track your property's estimated value and keep your net worth up to date—no manual updates required.

For more information about setting up and using Zillow integration, see our dedicated article.

Note: If you want to delete an asset account, see our How to Delete an Account article for step-by-step instructions.
