How to Create an Income/Deposit Transaction

Learn how to create a positive transaction in Quicken Simplifi

Written by Nicole

Overview

When you receive money, such as a paycheck, refund, or reimbursement, it's important to record it correctly in Quicken Simplifi so your Spending Plan and reports stay accurate. Your financial institution may call these deposits, while Quicken Simplifi refers to them as income transactions, but they mean the same thing.

Before You Begin

Before creating an income (deposit) transaction, it's helpful to understand how Quicken Simplifi distinguishes income transactions from expense transactions. This makes it easier to create the correct type of transaction.

  • Income (deposit) transactions display a plus sign (+) before the amount and appear in green.

  • Expense transactions appear in black and do not include a plus sign.

These visual indicators help you quickly identify whether a transaction is recorded as income or an expense. Here's how each transaction type appears in Quicken Simplifi:

Categories also determine whether a transaction is treated as income or an expense. When you assign an Income category, Quicken Simplifi records the amount as a positive value. When you assign an Expense category, it records the amount as a negative value.

Note: If you don't assign a category to the transaction, be sure to enter a plus sign (+) before the amount so Quicken Simplifi records it as an income (deposit) transaction.

Add an Income (Deposit) Transaction

To add an income (deposit) transaction, follow these steps:

  1. Hover over the left sidebar and click Transactions.

  2. Select the account where you want to add the transaction.

  3. Click + Transactions in the upper-right corner of the Transactions.

  4. Enter the Payee, Date, and Amount.

  5. Assign an Income category to automatically record the amount as a positive value. If you don't want to assign a category yet, enter a plus sign (+) before the amount to record it as an income (deposit) transaction.

  6. Click Create.
